INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center has named Sharon Smith, APR,
Smith joins the organization after launching and running an Indianapolis-based PR firm, Maverick Public Relations, for twelve years. Along with strategic communications, Smith will lead continued efforts to engage the media and public by building relationships with key stakeholders and developing tactics that maximize engagement.
“Sharon has deep roots in central Indiana and is a welcome addition to our team. She provides us with a strong background in communications and media relations that will allow us to advance our mission of enhancing the State Fairgrounds for all,” said Cindy Hoye, executive director of the Indiana State Fair Commission.
Smith holds a dual-bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from Indiana State University and resides in Indianapolis.
The 2017 Indiana State Fair recently welcomed nearly 907,000 fairgoers through its gates over a 17-day run, which marks a 24 percent increase in attendance over 2016. With fantastic weather, the fair experienced steady crowds that enjoyed new attractions, a wide variety of food and free entertainment.
